Francesco Lomanto (born 2 March 1962) is an Italian prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who has been Archbishop of Siracusa since 24 October 2020.
Biography
Lomanto was born in Mussomeli, in the diocese of Caltanissetta, on 2 March 1962.[1] He was ordained a priest on 29 June 1986 by the bishop of Caltanissetta Alfredo Maria Garsia.[2]
On 24 July 2020, Pope Francis appointed him metropolitan archbishop of Siracusa, succeeding Salvatore Pappalardo, who resigned due to age limits.[3] He was consecrated a bishop on 24 October 2020 at the basilica sanctuary Madonna delle Lacrime in Syracuse by the bishop of Caltanissetta Mario Russotto, with co-consecrators Salvatore Pappalardo, his predecessor, and Salvatore Gristina, archbishop of Catania.[2]
Motto
His motto, written in Latin, is "Sanctificati in veritate", that is "consecrated in truth" and is taken from the Gospel of John, chapter 17, verse 19.[4]
