Francine Munyaneza is a Rwandan businesswoman, entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Munyax Eco Ltd., a solar energy company operating since 2013 and based in Kigali. She is as well the Founder and CEO of La Maison Verte, a green and ecological green building project.[1]
Education[edit]
Munyaneza was educated in finance and business management in Belgium universities called Universite Catholique de Louvain.[1]
Career[edit]
Beyond her academic qualification, Munyaneza decided to travel back home to start up her clean renewable and affordable energy business to address the situations of electricity in rural areas as well as hot water in mostly urban areas of Rwanda.[2] That was after her 20 years of experience in the Middle East, Europe, Africa, Asia and Americas working at senior management level with top north American corporations, as well as leading humanitarian organisations of International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Médecins Sans Frontières or Doctors Without Borders(MSF).[3] Munyaneza expalined the potential of solar power in Rwanda.[4] Rwanda is being gender-sensitive country,[5][6] Munyaneza also fights to bring more women on board,[7] and she is known for her gender-oriented recruitment and sales strategy which is to bring women into the fight against climate change by harnessing the use of clean and renewable energy and market it at large to communities and to women.[8][9] Since 2014, her company Munyax Eco was selected by REG (Rwanda Energy Group, the national electricity company) to be a certified supplier/installer of Solar Water Heaters. Hence her company successively installed more than 800 Solar Water Heating systems to more than 1200 B2B & B2C clients giving energy access to more than 10,000 people, also supplies solar photovoltaic off grid systems, Solar Street light and other solar equipment (Solar Home Systems, Solar Cold Chain and other Solar productive use equipment).[10] After five years of operation, Munyax Eco was recognized by the London Stock Exchange Group to be among "Africa’s fastest growing and arguably the most dynamic businesses" in its latest "Companies to Inspire Africa" report, released in January 2019.[3] Munyaneza and ICU signed the contract for the supply of construction equipment of a photovoltaic system in Burundi to improve the production of electricity through the use of renewable energies in Africa.[11] Munyaneza impacted the great lakes region with her clean renewable energy business through difficulties of getting credit.[12]
Achivements and awards[edit]
Francine Munyaneza was nominated very recently for the AFSIA Solar Awards 2021 by the Africa Solar Industry Association and won the award of “The Residential Project of the year” for its Solar Water Heating installations all over the country. [13] She was nominated as the Realtor of The Year Over 30, Nominees for Founder of The Year Awards 2020 - East Africa.[14] Munyaneza received funding under the ARIE 2021 through USADF(United States African Development Foundation).[15]
