Francis I. Itimai is the incumbent governor of Yap State, Micronesia.
From 2023 till 2025, he served as lieutenant governor under Charles Chieng. After Chieng's death on 28 May 2025, Itimai became governor of Yap.[1]
Biography
Francis Itimai was born in Lamotrek, Yap State. He earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management from Park University, Missouri. After college, he worked as a police officer in Kansas City before returning to Micronesia.
In November 2007, Francis Itimai was nominated as Secretary of the Department of Transportation, Communications and Infrastructure and was confirmed in early 2008.
In November 2014, he ran for lieutenant governor of Yap with Charles Chieng; they lost. In February 2016, he returned to Yap State and served as Director of Youth & Civic Affairs under Governor Tony Ganngiyan.
In 2022, Chieng and Itimai ran again and won. Francis Itimai was elected lieutenant governor of Yap on 9 January 2023, serving under Chieng. In April 2025, Itimai served as acting governor due to Chieng's illness. On 28 May 2025, Chieng died and Itimai became governor on 29 May 2025.[1]
