Francisco de Paula Pleiteado Cevallos (1857 – 1907) was a Chilean lawyer and politician who served as a member of the Chamber of Deputies for several constituencies between 1891 and 1907.
A member of the Radical Party, he represented Temuco and Imperial and later Copiapó, Chañaral, Vallenar and Freirina. He also held senior positions in the Chamber of Deputies.[1]
Early life
Pleiteado was born in Santiago in 1857, the son of Francisco de Paula Pleiteado Alcalde and Carlota Cevallos Briceño. He studied at the Instituto Nacional and later studied law at the University of Chile. He qualified as a lawyer on 2 September 1885.[1]
Before entering national politics, Pleiteado practiced law and taught hygiene at a free public school for adults operated by the Sociedad de Bibliotecas Públicas Escolares in 1878.[1]
Political career
Pleiteado joined the Radical Party at a young age and participated in its Santiago organization. He also took part in the revolution against President José Manuel Balmaceda in 1891.[1]
He was elected to the Chamber of Deputies for Temuco and Imperial for the 1891–1894 legislative term and served on the Education and Welfare Committee. He was reelected for the same constituency for the 1894–1897 and 1897–1900 terms, continuing to serve on the same committee.[1]
Pleiteado was elected deputy for Copiapó, Chañaral, Vallenar and Freirina for the 1900–1903 term. He initially served provisionally in the Chamber, but left his seat on 28 June 1900. Following a supplementary election in Freirina, Enrique Villegas Echiburú was definitively recognized as deputy on 30 September 1900.[1]
He returned to the Chamber for Copiapó, Chañaral, Vallenar and Freirina for the 1903–1906 legislative term. He served as First Vice President of the Chamber from 3 June to 17 August 1904, was a member of the Government Committee and served on the Conservative Commission during the parliamentary recesses of 1904–1905 and 1905–1906.[1]
Pleiteado was reelected for the 1906–1909 term. During this period, he served as a substitute member and president of the Foreign Relations Committee, as a substitute member of the Public Instruction Committee, and as a member of the Legislation and Justice Committee.[1]
Pleiteado died in 1907.[1]
