Dr. Frank Zarnowski (April 14, 1943) is an author, historian, coach, TV commentator, statistician and award-winning public address announcer for track and field events, specializing in the decathlon.[1] [2] Zarnowski has been a mainstay at national track and field championships since 1970. He had the distinction of being the Public address announcer when the world record was set on five different occasions between 1975 and 2012. Zarnowski's non-profit website keeps readers up to date on the decathlon world and publishes the weekly DECA Newsletter.[3] Several of his books on track and field have been nominated for national awards.[4] In addition to his own published work, Zarnowski is regularly called upon to comment on all things decathlon as he is thought of by many as the foremost authority on the subject.[5] [6] [7] [8] Zarnowski was Professor of Economics at Mount St. Mary's University from 1967-2008 and has held the same position at Dartmouth College since 2002.[9]
Zarnowski was inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame in November, 2016.[10]
