Franziska Pietsch
Franziska Pietsch (* 1969 in Halle/Saale/Germany) is a german violinist of classical music.
Biography
Franziska Pietsch was raised in the atmosphere of a musicians’ household in East Berlin. As an eleven-year old girl, she had her debut at the Komische Oper in Berlin and performed as a soloist with renowned orchestras of the former GDR. She began her studies as a junior student at the University for Music Hanns Eisler in East Berlin Hochschule für Musik „Hanns Eisler“ Berlin with Werner Scholz. In Eastern Germany, she was seen as an extraordinary talent and enjoyed special support from the state up until her Father’s escape to West Germany in 1984. Two difficult years with reprisals by the regime followed. She was able to emigrate to West Germany with her mother and younger sister in 1986 when she was 16.
Her studies continued with Ulf Hoelscher, Karlsruhe, Germany, Jens Ellermann, Hannover, Germany and Dorothy DeLay at the Juilliard School New York, USA. She got important and fruitful impulses from master classes with well-known personalities such as Wanda Wiłkomirska, Ruggiero Ricci, Herman Krebbers and Zakhar Bron.
The internationally successful concert activities lead her to different countries in Europe, to America and Asia. She performed with conductors like Antoni Wit, Arpad Joo, Moshe Atzmon, Julia Jones, Toshiyuki Kamioka, George Hanson und Cristian Măcelaru.
She was the first concert master.[1] of the Sinfonieorchester Wuppertal (Germany) in the years 1998 to 2002, and Deuxième soliste at the Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg (Luxembourg) from 2006 to 2010. Regular invitations as concert master lead her to Düsseldorf, Opera (Germany), Frankfurt Opera (Germany), WDR Funkhausorchester Köln (Germany) and Solistes Europèens Luxembourg (Luxembourg). Not only as a concert master, she was invited to perform at numerous music festivals.
However, she is particularly interested in chamber music. In 2000 the Trio Testore was founded together with the pianist Hyun Jung Kim-Schweiker and the cellist Hans-Christian Schweiker. Besides vigorous concert activity, the Trio created the chamber music festival “Mai-Klassik” to commemorate the Trio’s ten-year anniversary. She was a part of the Trio until 2015.
Together with the violist Sophia Reuter and the cellist Johannes Krebs, the Trio Lirico was founded in 2014. On occasion of the 100th year of max Regers death a debut CD with String Trios and a Piano Quartet was published in 2017.
Despite her engagement in chamber music she still continues to perform as a soloist. Her different CD publication were honoured with several nominations[2] [3] and awards[4].
Owing to the CD record of the Prokofiev violin concertos with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin (DSO Berlin) and Cristian Măcelaru she won the quarter of the year prize of the German record review (Vierteljahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik, PdSK), Germany, 2018.[5]
For her CD Fantasque, on January 2021 she was awarded with the ICMA Prize, Category: Chamber music.[6]
