Fred's House are a British indie folk rock five piece from Cambridge, England.[1] The band's sound combines 70's inspired Folk-Rock such as Fleetwood Mac[2], West Coast, Country and the more contemporary alternative folk-pop sounds of the UK. Songs feature boy / girl vocals, three-part harmonies, delicate and sometimes rocking guitars.

History[edit]

In February 2010 "Griff and Vix", a London-based couple and duo, were set to record songs with producer NoisyFred. Griff’s brother Gafyn had been playing with Cambridge band "The Wentways", but they had just lost their front man due to artistic differences. They asked Gafyn if he would play bass for their recordings, to which he replied, 'I'll bring the whole band!'. So it was at Fred's House where they spent the weekend in the studio and with brother’s Griff and Gafyn playing together once again and everything falling quickly into place, Griff and Vix inherited a whole rhythm section and lead guitarist Lachlan Golder overnight. They played their first gig together a week later in London. These recordings made up the band’s first E.P. demo - Fred's House.

For the last two and a half years the band have been performing as a quartet with bassist Gafyn taking on the rhythm section, playing bass, kick drum and hi-hat with his feet as well as backing vocals. However, since July of this year Fred's House have been enjoying a bigger and fuller sound as they welcome drummer and percussionist Paul Richards to the band. Paul has been a friend of the band since the beginning and they are delighted he will be recording tracks on their debut album and joining them for as many shows as possible! However the band will still be playing some acoustic shows at folk and acoustic clubs featuring Paul on the Cajon and Congas!

Fred's House have many a festival appearance including Cambridge Folk Festival, Secret Garden Party and Bestival. The band have been main support for Eddi Reader, The Wonderstuff, Kyla La Grange, Lucy Rose, World Party and others. They have received national airplay on Tom Robinson's show BBC 6Music, Frank Hennessy's Celtic Heartbeat show on BBC Radio Wales as well as recently having live sessions on BBC Introducing, BBC Local Radio and many other local radio stations. They have also had their music featured on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks. They recently scooped two awards at the Annual NMG Awards 2013 (Eastern Counties); 'Best Folk/Roots Band' and 'Audience Choice Award' as voted for by the public. They released their first single "Fine Life" taken from their much anticipate debut album Bonnie and Clyde to critical acclaim, including For Folk Sake's 'Track of the Day', grabbing 4 and 5 star reviews across the board as well as emphatic local press.

Fred’s House debut album Bonnie & Clyde is out 21 April 2014 (available for pre-release soon) which has been recorded and produced by Neil 'Bugs' Rogers at Half Ton Studios. The band recently won some free recording in a national competition for BandApp to record their track Face in the Water with producer Adam Daniel King.

Critical acclaim[edit]

The debut single "Fine Life" was met with positive reviews from publications such as Venture magazine[3] and Indie London[4] whilst Female First Magazine announced "Fred’s House are set to be the band to watch this year."[5] alongside their 5 star review.

The Welsh folk singer and radio presenter, Frank Hennessy has lauded the band's sound.[6]

"Fine Life" has also been awarded track of the day by UK based website for folk sake.[7]
