Frederick Greenwood (born 15 January 1797, Keighley, West Riding of Yorkshire, died 28 August 1862, Norton Conyers House, Wensleydale) was an English magistrate who served as justice of the peace and Deputy Lieutenant for both North Riding of Yorkshire and West Riding of Yorkshire.[1][2]

In 1855 he was appointed High Sheriff of Yorkshire however due to failing health he was unable to accept the position.[3] His health problems are thought to have been the result of a railway accident in 1853.[4]

Family life[edit]

Frederick Greenwood was the eldest son of John Greenwood of The Knowle and Swarcliffe Hall and Sarah Sugden daughter of William Sugden of Eastwood House. His sister Sarah Hannah Greenwood married John Benson Sidgewick and was notable for being an employer of Charlotte Bronte when she was governess at Swarcliffe.[5][6]
