FreeCEN (Free UK Genealogy)[edit]

FreeCEN is a Free UK Genealogy project, which crowdsources volunteer transcriptions of 19th Century UK census returns.

Access to the online searchable database is given freely, as well as statistical information on the completion of counties.

Activities[edit]

FreeCEN volunteer transcribers are working on the 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871 and 1891 census.

The website is being refreshed and improved. [1] [2] The new version of the website was launched on 31st July 2017[3], for beta testing.

Membership[edit]

FreeCEN's census records are available to all without the need to sign up. Volunteers who transcribe data for the project can sign up for membership online, in order to allow access to transcriber facilities.[1]

Awards & Reputation[edit]

In March 2017 FreeCEN was included in Family Tree Magazine's Top 3 genealogy websites to start your family history at home[4]
