FreshTunes is a digital music distribution service founded in 2016 in Dubai by entrepreneurs Daniyar Khatim and Nikolay Okorokov.[1].

FreshTunes is one of the first music distribution sites to apply a freemium model that offers basic features of a product or service to users at no cost and charges a premium for supplemental or advanced features. The company works with independent artists and helps them share their music with the world on all major music streaming platforms and digital stores. FreshTunes is available in 144 countries. The company is based in Dubai and works as a remote first company.

History[edit]

FreshTunes was founded on March 3, 2016 in Dubai, UAE by entrepreneurs Daniyar Khatim and Nikolay Okorokov[2]

The company entered the music distribution market in 2016[3]. By the end of 2016, FreshTunes provided services in 84 countries, including the UK, US, Russia, India and Brazil.

In 2016 FreshTunes hired an independent London based design studio Bibliotheque to design their logo.

As of 2023 the service has acquired more than 890 000 users. Their client base consists of unsigned and independent musicians and record labels, as well as well known recording artists.

By July, 2023 more than 4 mln tracks have been uploaded on the platform[4]

FreshTunes is available in 144 countries. Top FreshTunes countries by number of users include India, Russia, Mexico, United States, Argentina, Spain, Ukraine, Chile, Brazil, Indonesia.

Business model[edit]

FreshTunes uses a freemium music distribution model with “no fees” and “no commissions” charged to artists[5]. The artist keeps 100% of revenues, royalties and rights[6].

Instead FreshTunes revenues are generated through value added services such as promotional services, artwork production, lyric video production, ringtone production, advanced analytics and reporting, managing multiple artists within one account, and fast track service support[7]

Music is distributed to all major music platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Deezer, Amazon music, Shazam, YouTube, JioSaavn, Tidal, AWA, Tencent, Yandex Music, VK Music, Zvuk, Anghami and more[8]. FreshTunes also allows users to opt out from stores or countries for distribution.

“I believe we’ve created a new model that is fair and gives the best value for money for all independent artists. It is one that we believe will create a new shift in digital music distribution. So many artists now are choosing to stay independent, even after achieving global success - it’s a trend that hasn’t gone unnoticed and FreshTunes is all about empowering and supporting the independent community of musicians around the world to truly run their careers on their terms”, said Nikolay Okorokov in 2016.[9]

Royalty payment policy[10][edit]

Musicians keep all rights for their content and get 100% royalties from sales of their music. Users have several options to withdraw funds from the platform, using either Payoneer, WebMoney or Bank transfer (only for legal entities, not available in Russia).

Free accounts users can withdraw in multiples of $25 with a payout period of 30 calendar days. Premium users can withdraw any amount from $10, the payout period is 7 days.
