Overview[edit]
"Yosef Joseph Yaakov Dadoune’s notebook is a travel diary: each drawing was made at a place where he was sojourning, while on "holiday”. Dadoune uses pastel to create the physical aspect of accumulated material. Pastel remains constantly alive: even when fixed, it never leaves its own unsettled aspect. This notebook, albeit not produced in the artist's routine workplace, is his paradoxical studio. It is where things that will later further develop throughout his practice are invented, defined, redefined.” (Donatien Grau)
Locations[edit]
The drawings were made by the artist in the Ardèche department in France. On the Medi-terranean coast, and the French border with Spain. And at Kibbutz Sdé Boker, in the Negev desert.
The book[edit]
Joseph Dadoune's travel diary is reproduced in its entirety. The text of the author Donatien Grau, comes to surround this one as to protect it. This text was printed in two direct colors (a purple and a bronze) and the reproductions of the notebook in 5 colors to remain faithful to the brightness of the colors of the pastels. The yellow was replaced by fluorescent yellow and the magenta was obtained with a mix-ture of fluorescent magenta. The book is threadsewn with open spine referencing the original notebook.
The graphic design was carried out by André Baldinger and Toan Vu-Huu, founders of the Swiss-German graphic and typographic design workshop baldinger vu-huu. The photos of the drawings were taken by Aurélien Mole is an french artist, curator and art critic, he lives and works in Paris. He is also an exhibition photographer.
