Freshly Squeezed Music (aka Freshly Squeezed) is a British independent record label and music publisher specialising in Electro Swing and vintage remix, based in Brighton, England and founded in 2005.[1] Dubbed "World leaders in putting a modern dance music spin on vintage records" [2] by Mixmag in 2013.
The label evolved from Club Montepulciano and Club Montepulciano Recordings, which ran from 1993 to 2004.[3] Freshly Squeezed specialises in dance-orientated vintage-influenced styles with elements of jazz, latin, ska, swing and pop music. More recently the Freshly Squeezed Music has become known for producing and releasing electro swing[4] which typically blends styles from the 1920's and 30's with contemporary music production techniques.
Their roster includes a diverse range of artists with releases by The Correspondents, Swing Republic, JFB, The Voodoo Trombone Quartet, The Pinker Tones, Foxgluv, Don Air, Lodekka, Dodo, Jem Stone, Nick Hollywood, Stereo de Luxe, and a series of compilations. Freshly Squeezed Music also manages the back-catalog of Club Montepulciano Recordings.[5][not in citation given][citation needed]
The series White Mink : Black Cotton (Electro Swing versus Speakeasy Jazz) went on to make the UK download chart,[citation needed] and became an influential series described by Mixmag as "Electro Swings first landmark moment".[6] and has sold over 20,000 copies.[citation needed] Since then they have gone on to release "White Mink : Black Cotton (Electro Swing versus Speakeasy Jazz)" Volume 2 and Volume 3.
Freshly Squeezed was described as a "Purveyor of future cult classics" by The Independent in 2007.[7]
In addition to the label, Freshly Squeezed also set up a sister publishing company in 2007, licensing their extensive catalogue of cleared for use material from the label to appear in numerous films, trailers, adverts, games and synchronisation including Knocked Up, License To Wed, Havanna Nights (Dirty Dancing 2) and Nancy Drew, TV including Ugly Betty,[8] The Paper (including the theme tune), Ola Chica (theme tune - Spain), The Apprentice, Davina McCall's Pre and Post Natal Workout. Advertising included Tesco, Carling, Shredded Wheat, Johnsons, Walls, Nike and computer games including LittleBigPlanet on the Sony PlayStation featuring Stereo de Luxe's "Bouchez" and The Voodoo Trombone Quartet's "Voodoo Juju".[9]
