The Freshman-Sophomore College, also known as "FroSoCo", is a Special Theme dormitory at Stanford University. The dormitory is located on the west end of campus, and houses roughly 100 freshmen and 60 sophomores every year.[1]

The two houses of FroSoCo, Adams and Schiff, were completed in 1983 as part of a project to expand freshman housing.[2] The Freshman-Sophomore College was later founded by professor John Bravman[3] in the 1999-2000 academic year[4] with the stated aim of creating the "vibrant residential intellectual community of a small, elite, liberal-arts college" within the larger context of a large research university such as Stanford.[5] The dormitory differs from others on campus in that it has its own dean, along with other support staff including an Oral Communications Tutor and a Residential Media Coordinator. It also holds a "sophomore seminar" program in which second-year students lead yearly seminars about miscellaneous topics.[6] Also, it is standard policy that freshmen living in the dormitory are guaranteed the option to return there for their second year, a course taken by about half the students.
