Friends of Fort York and Garrison Common
The Friends of Fort York and Garrison Common is a registered charity with the objective of advocating for the Fort York National Historic Site and the Fort York neighbourhood. It is incorporated under the Canada Business Corporations Act and its registered charity number is 899705966 RR0001.[1]
History[edit]
The Friends of Fort York was incorporated in 1994 in response to increased development in the vicinity of Fort York.[2] It evolved into an organization that assisted Fort York staff with the development of programming; the creation and maintenance of a team of re-enactors, the Fort York Guards; and advocating for the well-being of the local community as a whole.
Publications[edit]
The Friends of Fort York produces a quarterly newsletter, The Fife and Drum.[3] An anthology of its articles was produced in 2018 under the title of "Fort York: Stories From the Birthplace of Toronto."
Recognition[edit]
The Friends of Fort York received an award for heritage preservation from Heritage Toronto in 2016.[4]
