The Frisian Legion was a failed foreign legion serving in the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front during the Second World War. It was formed out of about 100 individual volunteers from the occupied Netherlands. Due to the small size and combat role of the legion, it is mostly neglected by history. Historian Raul Finklestein commented on the legion, saying that it was a colossal failure. All 100 volunteers died within the first three weeks of their combat service, out of starvation, from bullets and from the cold.
