Frognoise
Frognoise is a microgenre of extreme music, derived from gorenoise, noisecore and noisegrind, characterized by its thematic and aesthetic focus on frogs. Musically, frognoise incorporates the guttural vocals typical of gorenoise, with an emphasis on mimicking the croak-like sounds of frogs. The genre often features highly distorted, abrasive soundscapes and chaotic instrumentation, similar to its parent genres.
A defining characteristic of frognoise is its thematic content. Song titles and lyrics frequently depict detailed and sometimes surreal scenarios involving frog life, often presented in an exaggerated or grotesque manner. Album artwork consistently features images of frogs, reinforcing the genre's amphibian-centric identity.
The most prominent figure in frognoise is Phyllomedusa, a highly prolific artist who, as of 2024, has released more than 200 albums. Phyllomedusa's extensive discography has established the artist as a key influence within the genre, contributing significantly to its development and recognition.
