Front Row Insurance Brokers Inc. is a privately owned insurance broker primarily serving the entertainment industry with eight offices across North America.[1][2]

Front Row has insured various film productions across North America, including The Nest (2020 film) starring Jude Law, 50/50 (2011 film) starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Enemy (2013 film) starring Jake Gyllenhaal, The Experiment (2010 film) starring Forest Whitaker, Kodachrome (film) starring Ed Harris, The Whistleblower starring Rachel Weisz, and Barney's Version (film) starring Paul Giamatti.[3]

In 2013, the company initiated an online musical instrument insurance program for members of various Canadian music associations, including the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada[4], the Screen Composers Guild of Canada, the Canadian Country Music Association and the Canadian League of Composers. In 2018, the company initiated an online short-term event liability insurance program.[5][6][not in citation given][7][8]

Front Row has partnerships with various film industry associations to provide production insurance to their members, including the Documentary Organization of Canada[9] and the US (WIFT-US) chapters of Women in Film and Television International.[10][11][12] In 2023, the company partnered with the International Documentary Association (IDA) to provide errors & omissions professional liability insurance coverage to IDA members.[13]

Rust shooting incident

Front Row Insurance is the insurance broker for Rust (2024 film). In October 2021, production was temporarily suspended after a controversial and highly publicized firearms shooting incident, in which cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed.[14][15][16][17]

Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cinema

In various trade publications and media outlets, insurance brokers from Front Row have provided commentary on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cinema, and specifically on film production insurance.[18][19][20][21][22][23][24]

Company history

The company formed in 2009 when FOCUS Entertainment Insurance Brokers Inc. merged with the entertainment division of Jones Brown Inc. to create Front Row Insurance Brokers Inc.[25]

In 2015, Front Row acquired cultureONE Inc., an insurance broker in the Canadian performing arts scene.[26]

In 2022, Front Row was acquired by Westland Insurance.[27][28]
