The Fukushima Hopes are a semi-professional baseball team in the Baseball Challenge League of Japan. The team was established in 2014 as part of the expansion of the league, and began play in the 2015 season.[2] Their home is Fukushima Prefecture. Their player-manager is former Nippon Professional Baseball and Major League Baseball infielder Akinori Iwamura.
Franchise history[edit]
The Hopes were established in the region of Japan devastated by the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, and subsequent Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster "because they wanted to become a beacon of light for kids that were affected."[2]
