Funmilayo Omo is an innovative leader in the Nigerian insurance industry and the Chief Executive Officer of African Alliance Insurance Plc. She has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry where she has been part of the transformation and progress of the industry. In the 58 years of the existence of African Alliance Insurance Plc, the company’s brand had yet to undergo a brand refresh until her resumption when she pioneered the company’s first-ever internal and external brand transformation and technology advancement in 2018 to upgrade its facilities and raise the bar in the broad insurance industry. She has been described as “innovative” and a “leader to emulate” by colleagues, peers, and the media.
Education
Funmilayo Omo holds a BSc. degree in Insurance from the University of Lagos. She was trained as a Life Insurance Underwriter by Munich Re in South Africa. She is also an alumnus of Lagos Business School[1] and China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).

Career
Funmilayo Omo has over 25 years of experience in Life and Pension Business. She joined African Alliance Insurance Plc.[2] (then a Limited Liability Company) as an Assistant Superintendent in 1991 and worked her way to the top, learning by experience and from mentors.
She rose to the position of a Controller (Technical Operations) in charge of Individual Business in 2004 and became an Assistant General Manager in 2006. She was appointed as an Executive Director (Operations) at the company’s Annual General Meeting in 2012.
Funmilayo Omo was appointed Managing Director of African Alliance Insurance Plc[3] in May 2017. She leads the team and drives the overall corporate strategic goals.
In her quest to drive innovation[4], Funmilayo pioneered the design, modeling, and marketing of Takaful in African Alliance Plc as the pioneer family Takaful Office in Nigeria. She also developed and successfully launched micro insurance as a Strategic Business Unit in African Alliance Plc. Most recently in 2018, she pioneered the company’s first major nationwide rebranding process, positioning the company to lead in a rapidly changing digital environment[5]
Funmilayo also pioneered the design of the company's annuity products, boosting the annuity product range of African Alliance Plc to become a top-3 market player in the industry.
Philanthropy & Service
Funmilayo served on the Board of Trustees, Ajaokuta Steel Complex, Axiom Air, and National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO) until 2016. She currently serves on the board of Frenchies Food, as well as on the board of PAL Pensions Alliance, an associate of African Alliance Plc. She has been involved in numerous close-knit philanthropic activities. Her interest lies in sponsoring children from underprivileged homes through their educational studies.
She is also an active advocate of young people positioning their careers[6] for success.
