The series started development in June 2018, with many characters being designed differently. The production started in November 2019, with a different plot for the pilot. On March 28, 2022, the pilot was completed and was uploaded to the video sharing site, YouTube, and was then picked up by the streaming service, ysogood, in June 2022, then a full first season being confirmed in August 2022, for ysogood.[2]

The animation style is cutout animation, which was also used in some other shows, such as South Park. Some other animation styles that were planned for the series were 3-D animation, stop motion animation, and a combination of traditional animation and live action. However, none of them were released, and were either only incomplete versions or ideas.

Production

Early pilot production (November 2019 - November 2020)

The series started production in November 2019, with animation software FlipaClip,[3] with an unknown plot. The production lasted for about a year, before the creator ended up quitting making the series, and went to do coding instead for a few months. The production was completely cancelled for that certain period of time.[4]

Return to pilot production (February 2021 - November 2021)

When the creator decided to quit coding and return to animating, Yaakov made the decision to return to animating Funny!, and has not cancelled production since. The pilot has had three versions during this production period. The voice actors had also changed, instead of the creator voicing all of the characters. The first known plot was about Victor's mom making him do things, and then turns into Victor's friends doing odd shenanigans.[5] The second plot revolved around Victor moving to Funnyville, and discovering that he has superpowers. The third plot revolved around a stormy day in Funnyville, where Victor and Eric try to get some food and relax, but fail miserably.

End of pilot production (November 2021 - March 2022)

The pilot plot had been finalized, and production started immediately. The final pilot production had begun in November 2021, and took around four months to finish. On January 18, 2022, the series was set to stream exclusively on YouTube, due to the cancellation of the now revived streaming service, ysogood[6], but production continued, and had not been stopped.

On March 28, 2022, the pilot production had finished, and was released on YouTube later that day. The pilot was later picked up by the revived streaming service, ysogood, and later greenlit the series for a full first season.

Cancellation

In March 28, 2024, exactly 2 years after the show premiered, Funny! was cancelled. The creator announced that the series had been cancelled due to creative limitations as well as 'not liking the plot'.

A spin-off of the show, titled Funnyville, is currently in production.

Reception

The series currently has a 8.2 out of 10 rating on IMDb.[7], with 28 votes, and the series pilot has an 8.3 out of 10, with 19 votes, as of December 2025.
