Furacão 2000[edit]
Furacão 2000 is a label, broadcast program, and equipe de som (literally "sound system" in English) from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil which is known for producing and publishing Brazilian funk music and organizing performances known as baile funks.[1] The label and equipe was founded in the mid 70's by dancer and producer Virgilaine Dutra, her then-husband Romulo Costa, and Gilberto Guarani of the equipe "Guarani 2000".[2][3] It's known for launching many of the most popular baile funk artists and popularizing the music style nationally.[4]

Guarani was born and raised in Petropolis the son of Jacy Guarany, a pioneer in audiovisual technology in Brazil. Guarani claims in the 2019 documentary "Guarany - Eu sou o menino do Cinema Paradiso" that the name for the equipe was landed on after the former President of Brazil, Emilio Garrastazu Medici went to a party thrown by the equipe and said it was "a hurricane of 2,000 watts."[5][6]
In the 90's Romulo Costa and his then-wife Verônica Costa hey began regularly broadcasting a Furacão 2000 TV program on the television network Central Nacional de Televisão. By the 2000s Costa was married to Priscila Nocetti and did a daily Furacão 2000 broadcast featuring funk music on Band Rio and a weekly national broadcast on Rede TV.[4]
Virgilaine Dutra died in December of 2023. Furacão 2000 published a statement in her honor.[7]
