Future Africa is an early-stage venture capital firm based in Lagos, Nigeria. The firm started in 2019 to back early-stage African tech startups.[1] By 2026, the partnership had funded more than 140 companies across multiple African markets.
History
Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, who previously co-founded Andela and Flutterwave, started the firm in 2019 alongside investment partner Mia von Koschitzky-Kimani. The founders launched the venture to fill a critical funding gap that local innovators faced during their earliest stages.
In 2020, they introduced the "Future Africa Collective." This was a subscription-based angel syndicate that allowed international investors to pool their money and invest alongside the main fund into vetted tech companies.[2]
The firm shifted its focus from retail angel syndicates to institutional fund management between 2024 and 2026. In May 2026, Future Africa secured a $15 million funding commitment from the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC). This injection signaled a shift in how African tech gets funded, marks the first time a regional development bank stepped in with major capital to offset a drop in global venture funding.[3]
Investment Strategy
The firm uses an investment framework called "Build for the 94%". This thesis targets foundational tech infrastructure built for mass-market challenges, rather than apps tailored only for elite or wealthy consumers.
