GENEWIZ is an international biotechnology company based in South Plainfield, New Jersey, that provides genomics services including Sanger sequencing, next generation sequencing, gene synthesis, CRISPR/Cas-9 and CLIA services to academic researchers, pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, and government research facilities.
GENEWIZ has thirteen labs throughout the USA, Europe, and Asia, the largest network of genomics laboratories in the world.[1]
History[edit]
GENEWIZ was founded by Columbia University post-doctoral researchers Dr. Steve Sun and Dr. Amy Liao. While working as biomedical researchers, they recognized the needs and challenges researchers faced in their research progress. Sun and Liao sub-leased a 200 square-feet space in Long Island and began their Sanger DNA Sequencing business in June 1999.

June 1999 – GENEWIZ founded in Long Island.
July 2002 – Expansion: GENEWIZ moves to Technology Centre of New Jersey, North Brunswick, NJ.
December 2006 – GENEWIZ headquarters established in South Plainfield, NJ
June 2007 – First U.S. Satellite Lab established in San Diego, CA
August 2008 – First international lab established in Beijing, China
June 2009 – Introduction of Regulatory services
March 2010 – Introduction of Gene Synthesis services
July 2010 – China headquarter established in Suzhou, China
January 2012 – Introduction of Next Generation Sequencing services
June 2012 – Clinical Laboratory Improvement Admendments (CLIA) Registration
March 2013 – College of American Pathologists (CAP) Accreditation
July 2014 – Admera Health launched
December 2015 – GENEWIZ acquires Beckman Coulter Genomics

Spin-off of Admera Health[edit]
In 2014, GENEWIZ spun off its Clinical Services Business Unit as Admera Health, a molecular diagnostics company focused on personalized medicine.[2]
Beckman Coulter Genomics Acquisition[edit]
In December 2015, GENEWIZ signed an agreement to acquire the genomic services business of Beckman Coulter. The acquisition resulted in GENEWIZ’s expansion into EU with the acquisition of a lab in Takeley, UK.[3]
