GMUNK, a.k.a. Bradley G Munkowitz, (born November 26, 1975) is an American designer, director and photographer. He designed UI and holographic features for the films Tron: Legacy.[1] and Oblivion[2], experimentation with robotics like the short film Box and the desktop background for Windows 10. He is also known for his infrared photography[3] and mathographic prints[4].

Biography[edit]

GMUNK was born in 1975 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Canadian parents Alan Grosh and Rachel Owa, as the younger of two brothers. Though creative in his childhood, he first pursued education in Oceanography at the University of Arizona. From there he transferred to Humboldt State University, where he took a double major in Graphic Design and Filmmaking[5]. GMUNK currently lives and works in San Francisco, California.

Work[edit]

He started his first job as an Interactive Designer straight out of university for the British company Vir2L[6] where he worked until the DotCom Boom[7]. He was later recruited by Kyle Cooper to join the team at Imaginary Forces. After that he also worked for the motion graphics companies BUCK, Prologue and Digital Domain[8] in Los Angeles, where he directed the UI and holograms for the movies Tron:Legacy[9][10][11][12], Oblivion[13] and more, before moving to San Francisco, California. GMUNK started working as a Design Director for Autofuss, a sister company of Bot & Dolly[14], which specialized in robotics and projection mapping, where he directed the 'Box' short film showcasing the possibilities of projection mapping[15][16]. When Autofuss got acquired by Google[17] GMUNK quit and moved onto freelancing. He is currently repped by Tool of North America[18] and has directed short films like Chamber[19], car commercials for clients like Audi[20] and interactive installations like Telestron[21]

Photography[edit]

GMUNK's infrared photography works have been exhibited in the United States, Russia and online[22][23][24]

Speaking[edit]

GMUNK is also a public speaker for design conferences such as OFFF[25], FITC[26], OFFSET[27], Graphika Manila[28] and more.
