GT Racing: Motor Academy is a 2011 racing video game, developed and published by Gameloft. It is part of the GT Racing series. It was released on December 16, 2011 for the iOS, Android, J2ME and Symbian[1] and marks the first time in the series that a game is the same for both the iPhone and iPad. In 2016, the game was retired from the app stores except on Symbian. However, it can be accessible on Android via external file links.

Gameplay[edit]

Gameplay in GT Racing is very similar to that of Gran Turismo 4, with the player given the option of tilting the device, touching the side of the screen, or using an onscreen virtual steering-wheel to steer. There is a vehicle dealer in which the player can expand its availability by leveling up. To purchase upgrades, a feature called the After Market, a relatively new feature in video games, is added to purchase upgrades using in-game dollars.

Prior to its discontinuation, a Paddock feature was added as a way to bet for a new car or a large sum of in-game money.

Reception[edit]

Upon its release, GT Racing received generally favorable reviews. The iOS version holds an aggregate score of 8.5 on IGN.

IGN's Levi Buchanan was enthusiastic about the game, praising the game as an improvement of Gran Turismo 4. He concluded: “GT Racing is Gameloft’s riff on Gran Turismo and it is an excellent effort. Hardcore sim racers that love to root around under the hood and nail precision laps will get the most out of GT Racing. It’s not a casual-friendly game, to be sure, but would that crowd truly appreciate things like the breadth of licensed cars Gameloft uses? At just $6.99 for dozens of hours of racing challenges, GT Racing presents incredible value for your download dollars, too.”
