Gabriela Batista (born October 30 1995), who records as Gabily, is a Brazilian singer and songwriter.

Early life[edit]

Gabily was born in Parque Araruama, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on October 30, 1995.[1] She is the daughter of an evangelical missionary and therefore sang in church and released a gospel album as a child.[2] For Mundo Pop, Gabily revealed that being the daughter of evangelical parents didn't bring her any complications: "My parents supported me too much, as did my friends. For them, I am still Gabriela, my work has nothing to do with my religiosity, which is still the same, going to church and everything else".

From 16 to 21 years old, Gabily worked in a bank. During that period, shee attended three semesters of the university course of Financial Management at Unigranrio. Music has become Gabily's goal again when she celebrated his 18th birthday at a Tá Na Mente concert. "And they called me to sing on stage. I sang 'O que Passou, Passou' with them and a movie went through my head. I thought: that's what I want from life". - she told the newspaper O Dia.[3] Her participation in the show was recorded and posted on Youtube. The video has been viralised and she started to be hired for shows. With this, she understood that it was what she wanted, and left college - and her job.

The producer Umberto Tavares, known for working with Buchecha, Kelly Key, Ludmilla, Belo, Fiuk, Latino, Perlla and Anitta, saw a video of Gabily on the Internet and called her to sing funk. In an interview for POPline, she says that "he wanted a girl who would fulfill the role Anitta had left in funk when she migrated to pop. But then he saw that I wasn't for funk, that I really sang, I had a high voice. He said: 'your truth is not that'. I love funk, but I have much more truth with a song to really sing".

Career[edit]

2015-2017: Early work and Deixa Rolar[edit]

In 2015, the singer launched her first song, the promotional single "Não Enrola". Another Gabily's song, "Não Vou Desistir", was released as a promotional single in the same year. In August 2015, Gabily participated in DJ Tubarão's single "Avisa Ao Baile", which is part of the soundtrack for the movie Um Suburbano Sortudo. On July 1, 2016, Gabily signed with Universal Music Brasil, the same label of artists like Ivete Sangalo and Joelma Mendes.[4] The video for "Vale Tudo" was published on Gabily's channel in July 2016. On October 27, Gabily and singer Micael released the video for "Deixa Rolar," which was nominated for Melhores do Ano da Rádio FM O Dia in the category of "Best Clip".[5][6] The song reached the top position of Salvador and Rio de Janeiro radios. Gabily's first EP, Deixa Rolar, was released in November 2016. The project contains 4 tracks and is considered an "audiovisual project", since all of his songs had clips.

Gabily started the year 2017 releasing the single "Você Gosta Assim", with Ludmilla, which reached 19th place on Billboard Pop Airplay and 88th place on Billboard Hot 100 Airplay.[7] The two singers performed the track in Encontro com Fátima Bernardes, a Brazilian television program produced and shown by Rede Globo. To finalize the promotion of the EP Deixa Rolar, in May 2017, Gabily releases the clip of "Agora Tô Solteira," a song that still features MC Maneirinho.[8] On June 14, she began the national tour Quem Dá As Cartas Sou Eu in Rio de Janeiro. On September 15th, the singer published on her YouTube channel the clip "Cansei De Ser Fiel".[9] In October, Gabily participated of "Eu Quero Ver," a single by The Funk!, and published the clip of the songs "Se Liga", with Lucas & Orelha, and "Entra Na Dança".[10][11]

2018-2019: Singles and promotional collaborations[edit]

On April 27, 2018, Gabily released the single and the clip of "Toma", with MC WM.[12] The song is composed by Umberto Tavares and Jeferson Júnior, with the production of Umberto Tavares and Mãozinha.[13] With only 2 days of release, the video exceeded 1 million views on YouTube. On July 13th, the music video of "Foi Tão Bom", a song by Lippe with Gabily, was released. On August 8, the single "Pega Pega", her collaboration with Nego Do Borel, was released.[14] The song reached the first position of the most played funk songs on radios in the interior of Rio de Janeiro, Triângulo, Zona da Mata, Salvador, Fortaleza and Serra Gaucha, and became the 43rd song that most dominated Brazilian pop radios in 2018.[15]

On February 8, 2019, as his bet for Carnival, producer Rick Joe joined Gabily and MC Rebecca in the song "Revezamento".[16] The music video was recorded at Arco do Teles, a tourist and historical site in the city of Rio de Janeiro. On July 19th, the video "Cara Quente" was released on Gabily's official YouTube channel.[17] The video was recorded for 10 hours at Tavares Bastos, in Catete, Rio de Janeiro, and was directed by Isabelle Lopes. She also collaborated with Luanna in "Neblina"; the song was released on August 30. On September 27, Gabily's collaboratiom with Clau and Xamã, entitled "Rabetão", was released.[18] On the end of 2019, she released "Meu Ex", with DJ 2F[19], and published a video choreography of "Jogadão", her single with FP from Trem Bala.

2020-present: Putaria Clássica and Eternos Clássicos[edit]

On January 10, 2020, the "Jogadão" clip, Gabily's bet for the Brazilian summer, was available. The music was composed by Gabily, Jefferson Junior and Umberto Tavares. In the lyrics, she plays a woman who snubs her ex after a romantic night.[20] In February, she released "Missão Dada", her first single of the genre brega funk, with the participation of JS O Mão de Ouro. The clip was published on the same day that the song was released. The video was recorded in the community of Rocinha, in Rio de Janeiro, and was directed by Rômulo Menescal and Vinícius Olivo.[21] On March 8th, she participated in the documentary "Princesas do Funk", by the BIS Channel, which portrays the relationship between funk and female empowerment. In the same month, she participated in "Sextou", a song of Balbuena.

Gabily released her third EP, Putaria Clássica, in April. The project has three versions of already known songs and an unreleased track entitled "Chama a Polícia", which was elected as the project's single.[22][23] In the same month, the songs "Audaciosa E Louca", with Guga Mendes, "Vai Danada", by PK with her and the American singer Becky G, and "Movimento De Gostosa", with DJ Shark, were released. In May, the EP Putaria Clássica 2 was released; the song "Abre A Firma" was chosen as the project's single. To close the month of May, the singer released with DJ Bárbara Labres the single "Quer Saber por Quê?", with the participation of MC Rebecca, and a remix EP of "Chama A Polícia".

On June 26th, she released a new version of the song "Abre a Firma", a collaboration with PK Delas. In July, Gabily appeared as featured artist in "Sou a Barbie Girl", a track from Do Jeito Delas, an album by Kelly Key. The song is a re-recording of Kelly's homonymous success. She also participated in a brega funk version of "Chama A Polícia" by WR No Beat and Mc Neto, and released "Por Ele", with Jon Jon. On September 10th, her first studio album, Eternos Clássicos, was released. The project aimed to revisit two decades of funk carioca that has spread nationwide. In September and October, she released "Conflito", with MC G15, and "Fumaça", with Luck Muzik.
