Gabriel Wibmer (*14 June 2002 in Kals, Austria) is an Austrian mountain bike athlete and social media star known for creating downhill and street trials bike content on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok.
Career[edit]
Gabriel Wibmer is a very talented young downhill mountain bike athlete, who passionately combines creativity and speed on two wheels. The ambitious Austrian started to ride Motocross when he was five years old, but later switched to moto and bike trials due to the limited training possibilities. But with time, he felt the urge for more speed and adrenaline and when he was 12, he discovered his passion for downhill. He witnessed racing by chance during the iXS European Downhill Cup in Leogang with the age of twelve.[1][2]
In 2016, Gabriel won the unofficial World Championship title in the U15 category at the iXS International Rookies Championships in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis [3]. Since then, Wibmer has graduated to the big leagues, racing in the UCI Downhill World Cup as well as the iXS European Downhill Cup.
In 2018, he was crowned as winner of the Austrian Championship U17 and the iXS Rookie Cup overall rating. 2019 he won the Specialized Rookies Cup Saalbach U19 and the Junior U19 Glemmride Festival.[4]
While racing took a big part of his time in past years, he developed an eye for social media – entertaining his hundreds of thousands of fans on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok, where his videos have already accumulated millions of views. His most watched video “Late for School” went viral with views in the 8-figure range [5].
In 2022, he combines his skills in the disciplines of trials and freeride for the video edit "The Grind", showing a new perspective on what obstacles can be ridden and how he rides them on the streets of Hamburg. For this, he creates grind pegs together with the bike brand Canyon, which fit his full-suspension trail bike.[6][7]
