Gailan Ngan[edit]
Gailan Ngan is a ceramic artist from Hornby Island, British Columbia. She currently works and lives in Vancouver, Canada.[1]
Life[edit]
Gailan Ngan is daughter to ceramic artist Wayne Ngan and painter Anne Ngan.[1] Ngan worked as studio assistant and apprentice to her father on Hornby Island, later developing her own pottery studio, the Corner Shop, in Strathcona, Vancouver.[1]
Education[edit]
Ngan graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design (now known as Emily Carr University of Art and Design) in 2002.[2]
Work and Exhibitions[edit]
Ngan's ceramic work has been exhibited across British Columbia, Canada. Galleries and artist-run centres that have exhibited her work include The Apartment,[3] Centre A: International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Western Front, and the Museum of Anthropology.[4] Her work is part of the Doris Shadbolt Collection at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery.[5]
Ngan is currently represented by Monte Clark Gallery, a contemporary art gallery in Vancouver.[2]

Awards and Honours[edit]
Ngan is the recipient of various awards and residencies. In 2004, Ngan partook in Informal Architectures, a thematic residency at the Banff Centure in Banff, Alberta.[2] In 2007, Ngan received the Visual Arts Development Award (VADA) administered by Emily Carr University of Art and Design in partnership with the Contemporary Art Gallery.[10] In 2012, Ngan was Artist in Residence at St. George's Senior School in Vancouver.[11] In 2015, she received the North-West Ceramics Foundation Award of Excellence for her ongoing commitment to the ceramics community.[12] In 2016, Ngan received the Strojich Fellowship from the Medalta Artist Residency in Medicine Hat, Alberta.[13]
