Gali Batu Bus Depot is the sixth bus depot (after Sengkang West Bus Depot) to be built by the Land Transport Authority in Singapore, as well as the third multi-storey bus depot commissioned by LTA under the Bus Contracting Model (BCM), which sees the Government assuming ownership of all bus assets, including bus depots. It is located next to the Gali Batu MRT Depot on the Downtown Line, built east of the current depot stabling area-cum-bus terminal and adjacent to Kranji Expressway.
History
The location of Gali Batu Bus Depot was confirmed in August 2017 following the approval of amendments to the URA Master Plan 2014. The multi-storey facility comprises a three-storey administrative block, a five-storey dormitory, and a five-storey main depot with parking capacity for 715 buses. The depot is also equipped with refuelling and washing bays, as well as repair and maintenance workshops.
Contract DE142 for the proposed multi-storey Gali Batu Bus Depot was called on 22 October 2018 and subsequently awarded on 12 November 2019 to the Greatearth Corporation Pte. Ltd.–Gamuda Berhad Singapore Branch Joint Venture (with a 55%–45% ownership split) at a contract sum of S$260 million. The contract carried an initial duration of 41 months, in line with the projected 2023 completion date reported by the media.
In late March 2025, the completed bus depot was handed over by LTA to SMRT Buses for outfitting works, ahead of the commencement of operations later in the year.
