The gallery includes portraits of 20 borovchan shot in 1937–1938. The memorial contains the inscription – For whom the bell is ringing Borovsk. The gallery was destroyed by vandals three days after the opening of the memorial. The event caused a wide resonance in the media.[1][2][3][4]

History

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn – picture from the Gallery repressed (Borovsk)

The idea of creating a monument to victims of repression in Borovsk was discussed for a long time, but did not receive the support of the local authorities.[5][6] The creator of the monument, the artist Vladimir Ovchinnikov spent seven years collecting information about the repressed residents of Borovsk district in the archives of the Federal Security Service Regional Office.[5][7]

The gallery includes portraits of 20 borovchan shot in 1937–1938. In those years, 110 people from Borovsk district were shot. In total, the database collected by the artist Vladimir Ovchinnikov, collected more than 200 photos of repressed prisoners.

An attempt to create a memorial gallery was smashed by the machinations of vandals. The 20 portraits of borovchan with the image of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn on the wall in the center of the city did not last two days. The gallery was disfigured methodically and carefully.[2]

The appearance of the gallery was perceived ambiguously in Borovsk[8]
