Gambiza (English Transalation)[edit]
Gambiza (Resident stranger) is a term or name that is adopted by all women who get married into the Njanja Clan. The name Loosely translates to Resident stranger. The Njanja people are a group of people found in Southern Africa mostly in Zimbabwe. Their name means a foreigner who came by sea.
- A male Njanja is called -Moyo Munjanja or Moyo Sinyoro
- His Sister is called maMoyo Chinjanja
- His Wife abandons her original clan totem and converts to the Njanja clan with the title Mamoyo Gambiza
The Njanja are the only clan in Zimbabwe that practices this Tribal conversion. The term is designed to differentiate between a genetic Njanja woman and one who became a Njanja by choice /marriage.
