Game 4U
Game 4U® is a South African video game, consumer electronics, and accessories retailer that also specializes in video game console repairs. The company is headquartered in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and operates 12 retail stores which are strategically placed across South Africa as well as an online store (www.game4u.co.za) that delivers nationwide. The company's retail stores primarily operate under the trading name Game 4U, a subsidiary of OOLA Technozone.[1]
History
Game 4U launched their first store in 2008 at Ushaka Marine World and it quickly became a hit with the local gaming community as there were very few video game retailers that provided everything you need for gaming across a wide variety of platforms in South Africa at the time. The success of this store prompted their quick expansion allowing for multiple store launches the very next year and in the years to come they launched in almost all major malls and shopping centres within South Africa. Concepts
Competitions and Tournaments
Every year Game 4U hosts an annual soccer knockout tournament where players compete with each other in the latest FIFA game to win cash prizes, in store vouchers and gaming consoles. The event which is held every year at the Pietermaritzburg Game 4U store in Liberty Midlands Mall is said to be held in more locations in the future.[2]
Trade ins
Game4U has a trade in policy that allows customers to trade in their games for store credit in order to purchase new games.
Repairs
Game 4U were one of the first South African video game retailers to start offering a console repair service where customers could bring their console in to one of their stores and have it repaired.
Pre-order Bonuses
Game publishers have begun to obtain more pre-orders by including exclusive in-game or physical bonuses, available only if the player pre-ordered the game. Bonuses typically include extras such as exclusive characters, weapons, and maps. For example, Game 4U included an additional character: Shao Kahn for Mortal Kombat 11 upon release, and additional weapons for World War Z. Soundtracks, artbooks, plushies, figurines, posters, and T-shirts have also been special bonuses.
Giveaways
One of Game 4U 's objectives is to share and spread the love for gaming and they plan to do this by hosting giveaways in store or on social media, some of their giveaways include gaming apparel, video games, Xbox and PS4 consoles.
