Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) is an American independent wrestling promotion, which has been operating throughout New Jersey since 1999.
History
GCW was originally named Jersey Championship Wrestling. JCW wasn't big as they had to post posters near neighborhoods for an audience. They would run shows from 2001 through 2004. JCW would take a hiatus until 2013 and would continue to host shows until 2015; Ricky O sold the company to former Combat Zone Wrestling referee Brett Lauderdale. Lauderdale would change the name to Game Changer Wrestling. The first GCW event was a tournament hosted by Nick Gage who had been released from Jail to see who's tough enough to fight Gage. GCW would then host 4 shows in an outdoor New York venue. GCW was getting fame after former CZW owner John Zandig decided to host "Zandig's Tournament of Survival" which was popular for when Zandig did a 'Motha F'N Bomb' to Joey Janela off a roof onto Light Tubes stacked onto tables outdoors. In 2017, GCW would debut "Joey Janela's Spring Break" in which Joey Janela helped host. It was famous for matches like, Janela vs. Marty Jannetty, Matt Riddle vs. Dan Severn and the 'Clusterfuck Battle Royal'. It was famous for having The Invisible Man in the match as well. GCW would host in Game Changer World in Howell, New Jersey until early 2018, they would rent a building that was in the same street as the CZW / WSU Training Dojo and would name the building "The Compound" which was used in Jimmy Lloyd's Birthday Party and many more GCW events until they moved out. They now host in multiple venues and not in a permanent venue, as of 2019. The promotion would announce that Josh Barnett is hosting an event titled 'Josh Barnett's Bloodsport'. Janela would announce Joey Janela's Spring Break Part 3 as well.
Controversy
On December 9, 2017, CZW's Cage of Death 19 show ended with Nick Gage and Brett Lauderdale from rival promotion Game Changer Wrestling invading the ring. Reportedly, CZW booker Giancarlo Dittamo had pitched an invasion angle to DJ Hyde, but was shot down. Without telling anyone, Dittamo decided to go through with the angle regardless. Police were called to the arena, but Dittamo, Gage and Lauderdale had all left the venue by the time they arrived. Hyde was reportedly "beyond furious" over the incident, firing Dittamo from CZW.
