History[edit]
Started by Liam Dawe in 2009 as a small hobby while learning more about GNU/Linux, it eventually spawned into a full-time Linux and Linux gaming news website.
Originally run off of a dot info domain name (gamingonlinux.info - no longer affiliated, the domain lapsed), before swapping over to a dot com domain (gamingonlinux.com) where it has stayed in operation since 2011. Since then it has gained over seventeen thousand articles and over ten thousand registered users.[1], with multiple volunteer contributors[2] giving their free time to provide news, interviews, reviews and more.
They have been publicly linked to and thanked by Valve Software (Steam), in an article on providing help[3] (see "we got a ton of help from the community"). GamingOnLinux has also been cited by the likes of Forbes[4][5][6], has been linked to by the likes of the Linux Mint distribution on their official blog[7] and many more respected websites.
You can also see an interview with the creator, Liam Dawe, on interview with PlayingTux, and much more recently in Destination Linux episode 48.
GamingOnLinux is listed as the number 1 Linux gaming website by the popular open source news website It’s FOSS[8] and it's listed in the top 10 "Websites All Linux Users Should Have Bookmarked" from makeuseof[9]
