History

Started by Liam Dawe in 2009 as a small hobby while learning more about GNU/Linux, it eventually developed into a full-time Linux and Linux gaming news website.

Originally hosted on a dot info domain name (gamingonlinux.info - no longer affiliated, the domain expired), it later switched to a dot com domain (gamingonlinux.com) where it has remained operational since 2011. Since then, it has accumulated over seventeen thousand articles and over ten thousand registered users.[1], with numerous volunteer contributors[2] dedicating their free time to providing news, interviews, reviews, and more.

They have been publicly acknowledged and thanked by Valve Software (Steam), in an article about receiving community support[3] (see "we got a ton of help from the community"). GamingOnLinux has also been cited by Forbes[4][5][6], the Linux Mint distribution on their official blog[7], and many other respected websites.

You can also find an interview with the creator, Liam Dawe, on interview with PlayingTux, and more recently in Destination Linux episode 48.

GamingOnLinux is listed as the number one Linux gaming website by the popular open-source news website It’s FOSS[8] and is featured in the top 10 "Websites All Linux Users Should Have Bookmarked" by makeuseof[9]
