GardeningWell
GardeningWell is a gardening-related blog, video series, and registered Charitable organization founded by Ciaran De Buitlear and based in County Meath.[1][non-primary source needed] The organization donates sunflowers and pollinator plants across Ireland.[2] GardeningWell has also begun multiple projects aimed at improving biodiversity in Ireland.
Background
De Buitléar established the project with his children Sam and Zack and his wife Fiona. He has said that he has no formal horticultural training and learned from gardening books.
Activities
GardeningWell’s focus includes planting native species, avoiding peat compost, composting, reducing plastic use, and creating pollinator habitats. During lockdown a “Growing Together” activity with a local youth group encouraged children to grow plants and share them with neighbours and grandparents. Community projects have included plant distribution to elderly residents, [2][not in citation given] donations of sunflower seeds to schools, creation of pocket forests, wildflower meadows, a community tree nursery, and bat boxes. Community impact
A local online gardening group of about 350 members has been associated with the project. The household installed rooftop solar panels, and public messaging has emphasised practical, accessible steps, such as beginning with a single plant.
Reception
Subsequent reporting described local engagement through collaborations with schools, youth groups, and sports clubs, and highlighted biodiversity projects including tree planting, wildflower meadows, and habitat creation.[2][3]
