Gareth Henry is a businessman, investor, and expert in actuarial mathematics. He currently serves as a Managing Director at an alternative investment firm in the United States. He currently resides in New York City.

Education

Born in London, Henry went on to develop a passion and talent for mathematics and the process of financial risk assessment. This led him to enrollment at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics in 2001.

Career

After graduating from Heriot-Watt University, Gareth obtained his first job with Watson Wyatt where he joined the manager research team as an analyst. He eventually moved on to the Global Investment Management Services team where he remained until 2004.

Gareth Henry joined SEI Investments as an investment manager in 2004, where he served and managed consultants, insurers and pension funds. After a year with this company, he moved on to become the Director of Schroders in 2005.

After nearly two years at Schroders, Gareth Henry “let his sense of adventure take over” and he joined Fortress Investment Group in 2007. This required that he move to the United States where he became the company’s managing director.

As the Head of International Investor Relations, Gareth raised significant capital for Fortress’ hedge funds, real estate holdings, private equity and private credit. His job required that he engage with companies in the Middle East, Europe and the United Kingdom. He also oversaw distribution agreements all over Asia.

At the same time, he was also the Global Head of Investor Relations in which he managed the company’s $4 billion hedge fund business.

Gareth Henry then served as the Global Head of Investor Relations for Angelo, Gordon & Co. where he was a partner. In 2016, he raised $4.5 billion for this company. In 2017, he managed to raise $2.5 billion in real estate and credit products.

Currently serving as a Managing Director at one of the world’s most successful alternative investment firms with locations in New York, London, Bahrain, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh, and Singapore, Henry oversees the daily operations and investments of the firm.

Philanthropy

In 2018, Gareth Henry established and helped fund the Gareth Henry Access Bursary at his alma mater Heriot-Watt University, one of the UK's leading universities for business and industry. The Actuarial Science degree at Heriot-Watt is accredited by the UK actuarial profession. Henry also offers the participants mentoring and one-on-one coaching on a regular basis.

Gareth Henry is an accredited fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the UK and the Society of Actuaries in the United States.
