Company History
Gateway Mortgage Group was founded in 2000 by Kevin Stitt in Tulsa[6].
In May 2019, Gateway Mortgage Group completed a merger with Farmers Exchange Bank, an Oklahoma bank chartered in 1935, resulting in the formation Gateway First Bank[7].
The transaction combined Gateway's national mortgage operations with a state commercial banking charter, expanding the institution into consumer deposit accounts, commercial lending, and treasury services while establishing an initial branch footprint in northwest Oklahoma[8].
In 2023, American Banker ranked Gateway First Bank first among US banks with between $2 billion and $10 billion in assets based on three-year average return on equity[9].
Operations and Acquisition
Gateway operates consumer and commercial branch banking centers in Oklahoma alongside retail mortgage lending centers across more than 40 U.S. states[10].
In September 2023, Gateway completed its first branch banking center acquisition by purchasing the Bartlesville, Oklahoma, location from Regent Bank, transferring customer deposit accounts and expanding its Oklahoma retail network[11]
The institution is also the title sponsor of the Turnpike Classic, an annual college football series between Oklahoma State University and the University of Tulsa, under an agreement running through 2027[12].
