Geeta Lal Sahai is an Indian journalist, author, filmmaker and mental health campaigner. Her short story collection - When Goodbye Begins: life takes over (2021), based on real-life experiences, portrays the fragility of the human mind, love and grief. Her earlier books include- Beyond Music: maestros in conversation (non-fiction); World Famous Strange Mysteries (non-fiction); translation of Hindi novel- Chitcobra into English- The Colour of my Being (fiction).

Geeta makes films on social issues. Her film- I REMEMBER... is on stolen memories and broken hearts. It traces the journey of an Alzheimer's/dementia patient and the dilemma and pain of caregivers. The film (60 minutes) has won many national and international awards.

Life & Career[edit]

Born in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), brought up and educated in Delhi, she received her Master of Arts, History from the University of Delhi. She began her career as a print journalist and later switched to audio-visual and initiated 24x7 Hindustani Classical music radio station, Radio Gandharv on Worldspace Satellite Network, and is associated with Radioweb a classical music online station.

She is actively involved in working for the cause of mental health. Geeta Lal Sahai[1] is a recipient of REX-Karmaveer-Global-Fellowship[2][3] and Bronze and Silver Karmaveer Chakra Award (Instituted by iCONGO- International Confederation of NGO) - in partnership with the UN (2014 and 2019 respectively).

She is the Founder-President of non-profit organization- Swayam Foundation, that focuses on mental health and gender. She lives in Delhi-NCR and is on the board of various non-profit organizations working in the area of mental health. She is also associated with media organizations like IAWRT (International Association of Women in Radio and Television), IWPC (Indian Women Press Corp), SWA (Scriptwriters Association) and IMPPA (Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association).
