The General K.S. Thimayya Memorial Trust[1] is a Bengaluru headquartered charitable organisation established in 2005 (and formally incorporated in 2009) to celebrate the life of General K.S. Thimayya, Padma Bhushan, DSO, former Chief of the Army Staff (1957 to 1961), and Cottonian (1918 to 1922).

The Trust endeavours to carry out activities in relation to and support institutions that the late General has been closely involved with, including the Bishop Cotton Boys' School in Bengaluru, the Kumaon Regiment, the Armed Forces at large, and Kodagu District.

The Trust is managed by a board of trustees comprising old boys of the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School; and does not carry on any activity with an intention to earn profit. All donations made to the Trust enjoy tax exemption.

The General K.S. Thimayya Memorial Lectures[edit]

The Trust organises the annual Thimayya Memorial Lecture,[2] presently in its 17th Edition, in memory of General Thimayya, an Old Cottonian.[3] The Lectures, though open to the public, are delivered by Old Cottonians.[4]

The General K.S. Thimayya Medal[edit]

The General K.S. Thimayya Medal honors the memory of the General, who apart from his military heroics, stood tall as a leader post retirement from the Army. The medal is awarded to Old Cottonians who have demonstrated exemplary public service.

The Benevolent Fund[edit]

The Trust operates a fund that recognises former members of teaching, administrative and support staff of the Bishop Cotton Boys' School, with a citation and cheque for Rs. 1 Lakh each. The Fund comprises of donations made by Cottonians and non-Cottonians. The Fund's biggest donors are Rohan Murthy and Nandan Nilekani.[25][26]

In the 6 years since the Fund was set up, the Trust has handed out over Rs. 56 Lakh to deserving staff members and their families. Recipients include retired gardeners, carpenters, cooks, ground staff, bus drivers and conductors, retired teachers and principals. These staff members have cumulatively contributed over 1,565 years of collective service to the students of the Bishop Cotton Boys' School over the years.
