Geoffrey D Calhoun is an American author, screenwriter & consultant. A native of Troy, Michigan, Geoffrey's writing career began by accident. Geoffrey was working in the medical field as an MRI Technician when he was approached by a close friend who worked as an editor for a local television show, who challenged Geoffrey to write a script treatment.
After writing the treatment, several months passed before Geoffrey's wife read the treatment, and he felt inspired to write the screenplay. "It was my first, and it was actually optioned to a production company who loved it. Unfortunately, the tax incentives expired, and the company went out of business."[1]
Since then, he has received honors in several film festivals and contests, including the Louis Mitchell Award for Excellence in Writing at the Action on Film International Film Fest[2], first place in Horror Hotel[3], first place in the Indie Gathering Film Fest[4], and a nomination for Best New Writer in the Action on Film fest[5], among others.
His latest book, The Guide for Every Screenwriter, is an Amazon Best Seller [6]. Some of the subjects covered are: the concept of a screenplay from plot/subplot, working through dialogue, creating and resolving conflict, structure, and screenplay formatting.
Career
In 2017, Geoffrey teamed up with fellow screenwriters and founded [7], where they connect aspiring writers with experienced mentors in their genre to refine their screenplays.
Continuing to support aspiring screenwriters, he was appointed Director of the Script Summit Screenplay Contest[8]
He also teaches screenwriting in various seminars and workshops.
