Geometry Dash Meltdown is a 2015 rhythm-based runner game developed and published by RobTop Games, founded by the Swedish game developer Robert Topala. A spin-off in the Geometry Dash video game series, Meltdown sees the player as a square that constantly moves, forcing players to avoid incoming obstacles by tapping the screen, making the player jump.
First announced on November 20, 2015, Meltdown released on December 19, 2015, for Android and iOS devices. The game was received positively by critics, who praised the game's level design and difficulty.
Gameplay[edit]
Geometry Dash Meltdown is a rhythm-based runner game and sees the player as a customizable[1] cube that constantly moves forward in three different two-dimensional levels.[2] The game's levels are scattered with various obstacles and hazards, such as spikes and chasms, that the player must avoid by jumping, which is done by tapping the screen. Colliding with an obstacle will send the player back to the beginning of the stage, unless the player is in practice mode, in which case they will go back to their last self-set checkpoint.[3] Certain stages also include other elements, such as portals that flip gravity upside down and ones that makes the player drive a rocket.[1]
Development[edit]
Geometry Dash Meltdown was developed and published by RobTop Games, a Swedish video game company founded by Robert Topala.
Meltdown was first announced by Topala on Twitter on November 20, 2015, where he wrote that he was working on a secret Geometry Dash project, with a picture attached showing the game's title.[4] A trailer for the game was published to YouTube later on December 16, which included a slated release date of December 19.[5] The game released as planned on the 19th for Android and iOS devices.[1]
Reception[edit]

According to review aggregator Metacritic, Meltdown received positive reviews from critics.[6] Tom Christiansen of Gamezebo rated Meltdown 4.5/5, writing that the game's hard difficulty and "well-designed" levels resulted in a "surprisingly energetic performance".[2] Tommaso Pugliese of Multiplayer.it also praised Meltdown for similar reasons, considering it as a "very enjoyable concentrate of immediacy", while criticizing it's lack of content.[3]
The game's soundtrack, composed by F-777, received a mixed reception from critics. Gamezebo wrote that the game's music and sound effects were well-synchronized with the gameplay, while still stating that playing with music on may be "disorientating" at times.[3] Multiplayer.it was critical towards the music's use in the game, stating that the game sometimes includes "misleading rhythm aspects".[3]
