From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

George Lyman Claflin (1822–1886) was an American businessman and public servant.

He was born in Pawtucket, Rhode Island (at the time, part of Massachusetts) on December 22, 1822.

He purchased the Joseph Balch company in 1873, and renamed it the George L. Claflin Company. His son, Arthur W. Claflin was a partner in the business. The company was one of, if not the, foremost druggist and apothecaries in New England, and is still in business today.[1]

In 1850, he married Louisa Sisson Whitman.

In 1870, he was elected to the Common Council of the City of Providence, and in 1874, to the Rhode Island General Assembly.[2]

He was a member of the Rhode Island Historical Society.

He was one of the founding members of the Central Congregational Church.[3] The "Prayer" stained-glass window in the present church was given by his sons Arthur and George Claflin in memory of their parents.
