George Edward Provens (June 1, 1918 – May 7, 1982) was an American Negro league third baseman in the 1940s.[1]

Biography

A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Provens played in two games for the Cleveland Buckeyes in 1945. He had previously tried out for the Homestead Grays in 1944.[2]

Provens was later an acquaintance of a young Thurman Munson, who played sandlot baseball in Canton, Ohio.[3] Provens was inducted into the Canton Negro Oldtimers Association Hall of Fame in 1976.[4]

Provens retired from the Ford Motor Company and also owned a grocery store.[5] He died in Canton in 1982 at age 63.[6][7]
