George J. Russell is a licensed real estate broker and politician, currently serving as District 3 City Councilor in Worcester, Massachusetts.[1]

Early life and Education

A life-long Worcester resident, Russell graduated from St. John's High School. He attended Worcester State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Studies.[2] Russell is also a state licensed real estate instructor, and runs George Russell Realty School in Worcester.[3]

Political Career

Russell is a past president of the Lake Quinsigamond Watershed Assocation. He has served eight years on the Worcester planning board including three years as board chairman. He was chosen by Mayor Joseph Petty as Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Works, as well as being assigned to serve as a member of the Municipal Operations and Economic Affairs Standing Committees.[4] Russell has also previously served multiple terms on the Senate Democratic Committee.[5]

In 2011, Russell was elected to the Worcester City Council, representing District 3.[6] While serving as District 3 city councilor, Russell has pushed for foot patrols in certain areas and added new recruits to the Worcester Police Department and Worcester Fire Department. Russell has also brought about multiple park upgrades, as well as opening the first dog park in District 3.[7] Russell is also known for maintaining a near perfect roll call on all city council meetings, saying that the world is run by "those who show up."[8]

Jurisdiction

Russell's jurisdiction includes all of District 3. District 3 is generally comprised of the neighborhoods of Grafton Hill south of Hamilton Street, Rice Square, Billings Square, Union Hill, upper Vernon Hill, Massasoit, Edgemere, Granite Street, Quinsigamond Village and College Hill.[9]

Personal Life

Russell is married to Nancy Foster and has a daughter named Caroline.[10]
