George Ticknor (journalist)

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

George Ticknor (14 April 1822, in Boston – 25 December 1866, in Keene, New Hampshire) was a lawyer, and later a journalist.

He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1847 and studied law in Franklin, New Hampshire.

Ticknor was born to Benjamin Ticknor and Hannah Gardner.[1][page needed] Benjamin was a broker and employed Ticknor's cousin, William Ticknor, who also resided with their family at their Boston residence. Another cousin, George Ticknor, also resided in Boston where he was a writer and historian.

He was admitted to the bar in 1850, and began practice in Hanover, but in the following year moved to Claremont. He was solicitor for Sullivan County 1855–1859. About 1860, he settled in Keene and purchased a large interest in The Keene Sentinel which he edited during the remainder of his days. He published Gazetteer and Biographical Sketches of New Hampshire.
