During the 2017 Legislative Session, State Representative Rhonda M. Burnough from District 77 in Clayton County, drafted House Resolution 723[1] to honor Gold Star Fathers across the state of Georgia for the first time ever. The resolution passed the Georgia House of Representatives in March, officially recognizing Thursday, November 9 as Gold Star Father Day in 2017.

In total over 100 attendees, including local elected officials, came out for Georgia’s first Gold Star Father Recognition Event and luncheon. Speakers included Gold Star Fathers Carey H. Brown, Kerry W. Davis, and Thomas P. Dingler, Jr. as well as Representative Bill Hitchens (D-161), Chairman of the Defense & Veterans Affairs Committee and State Rep. Burnough.
