Georgios Iordanidis (Greek: Γεώργιος Ιορδανίδης; born October 17, 1989), is a Greek football manager.[1] Currently, he works as international scout for Ekstraklasa club Wisła Kraków.[2]

He started his career with Agia Paraskevi in 1996, before he made a move to Glyka Nera in 2001 and AEK Athens academy in 2004. He joined Nea Ionia in 2006. Loaned out to Eleftheroupoli in 2007, he joined Blackpool academy in 2009. He transferred to International Football Academy in 2010 and Sholing in 2011, before ending his career at non-league club QK Southampton.

Personal life[edit]

He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Football Studies from Southampton Solent University (alumni association member)[3] and he has also studied physiotherapy in a private institute of vocational training (IEK) in Athens, Greece. Additionally, he holds his UEFA C (FA level 1 and 2 coaching badges), emergency aid and safeguarding for children certificates from the English FA. Ex-Blackburn Rovers player Chris Sulley was his FA Level 1 tutor at Manchester FA. He was taught for the FA Level 2 at University of Chichester by the English former midfielder of West Ham United, George Parris. He is a member of The FA Licensed Coaches Club since 2011. Moreover, he speaks two languages Greek and English.[4]

On January 8, 2017 a charity tournament between Amputee Football Greece, Olympiacos academy network staff and Greece homeless team was organised after his initiative; to raise poverty awareness and offer as many food supplies as possible to homeless people.[5][6] On January 18, 2017 he participated as an experiential guest in a seminar, at Avlona juvenile detention center, to arouse public awareness and sensitivity on matters of road culture and safety.[7]

Playing career[edit]

Youth years[edit]

He started his career at the age of six at his local club, Agia Paraskevi. He remained there for five consecutive years. After a short-term deal with a team in Athens, he joined AEK Athens academy. In June 2006, he signed a three year contract with Fourth Division club Nea Ionia.[8] He went on loan to Fifth Division club Eleftheroupoli for the remainder of his contract, in January 2007. During his two-and-one-half-years stint at the club's youth and senior level he made more than 40 outings.[9][10] He was released and made available for free transfer in July 2009.[11] He signed with Blackpool U20s before heading out on a free transfer as injuries hampered his progress. He then moved to Lytham St. Annes to play for IFA, though he played just two games under manager Peter Farrell; against Curzon Ashton reserves and Workington and he was also a member of the squad against Wrexham reserves.

His attitude and commitment, on and off the field has been excellent and he was very popular with players and staff.

— Peter John Farrell UEFA A, in November 2010.

George is an extremely trustworthy character and I hold him in the highest regard [...] a consummate professional, extremely genuine with a willingness to learn and to help others achieve their goals something that is rarely found today.

— Sean Berry UEFA B, in December 2010.

Later years[edit]

He joined Sholing football club in October 2011, but failed to nail down a place thus his contract was terminated.

He is a bright lad, he likes our set-up and he speaks ever such good English. He should fit in well.

— Dave Diaper, in Southern Daily Echo, Non League Spotlight by Wendy Gee, in October 28, 2011.

He joined QK Southampton for the 2013–2014 Hampshire Premier League[12][13] after his failure to impress the coach of Lymington Town at a football trial which he had in October 2012. He debuted in a 5–0 defeat against Colden Common when he came into the pitch as a substitute in the 70th minute of the game[14] without being able to help his team to achieve a better result and while the score was already 3–0 against them. His second and last appearance for the club came as a late substitute in a match against Liphook United which ended 1–2 in favor of his team.[15]

Coaching career[edit]

As of 15 August 2017

In June 2012 he worked as a sports coach at a summer camp held by Organization Earth, an international non-governmental organization which is located at the town of Agioi Anargyroi in Athens of Greece. In 2011, he was a volunteer youth coach at the local team of Southampton, Queen's Keep FC. In January 2013, he trained Chamberlayne Athletic Ladies FC as an assistant coach. He was hired as international scout from Ekstraklasa club Górnik Łęczna on May 1, 2017. An unforeseen relegation led the club into administration and I liga thus his contract was terminated on June 30, 2017. He belongs to Wisła Kraków scouting department since August 14, 2017.

Managerial career[edit]

In January 2016, he accepted to manage the first ever Greek national team for amputee footballers, making himself a pioneer football manager in the sport for Greece.[16][17][18][19] He was officially appointed manager of Amputee Football Greece on February 12, 2016.[20] His tenure came to an end on January 11, 2017.[21]
