Gerald Alain Chen-Young is an American economist and investment executive known for his leadership in pension fund management and contributions to economics and finance.[1]
Early life and education
Chen-Young was born in Washington DC and soon after moved with his mother to Jamaica. He grew up in Jamaica and went to high school in Canada.[2] He went to university in Washington DC and then obtained post-graduate degrees in Economics from York University and London School of Economics and Law from the University of Miami and the Washington College of Law.
Career
He served as chief investment officer of the UNCF (United Negro College Fund), where he managed over $1 billion in endowment assets to support historically black colleges and universities. Prior to this, Chen-Young held key investment roles at the State Board of Administration of Florida and TIAA (Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America-College Retirement Equities Fund).[3] He was awarded the prize for "Thought Leadership" (Institutional Investor), was nominated twice for "Endowment & Foundations CIO of the Year" (aiCIO Power 100 List), and is recognized for best practices involving good governance, advisory services & risk-adjusted results.[4]
