Gerald Louis Filardi, Sr (born December 30, 1973) is a former American football linebacker. He played college football at Penn State and later was signed to the National Football League (NFL).
College career
Filardi played college football at Penn State University and played in two national championships under Coaches Joe Paterno and Jerry Sandusky. Filardi walked on at Penn State. As a junior, he led in tackles with 112, fifth in the Big Ten.[1]
Filardi was offered a scholarship by Indiana his senior year at Walt Whitman High School in Huntington, N.Y. But he asked for time to decide, hoping to get an offer from Penn State, where he had attended three summer camps. He didn't, and to make matters worse, Indiana gave his scholarship to another player.[2]
So he walked on at Penn State, and after one season was rewarded by coach Joe Paterno with a scholarship.

Professional career
Coaching
In 2012 Filardi founded the Long Island Spartans, Long Island's first travel football team.
In 2013 Filardi co-founded Long Island Elite Football with Benjamin J. Carey. Long Island Elite football was the region's first travel elite youth football program with multiple teams traveling out of state to compete in national championships. The program was met with widespread speculation due to the overwhelming popularity of lacrosse and soccer, however the program grew in popularity over the course of 9 years.
In 2019 Filardi was hired as the varsity head football coach of Half Hollow Hills West High School in Dix Hills, New York.
In 2022 the Long Island Elite 14U team won their first national title in the Texas New Year's bowl, rendering their San Antonio opponents scoreless in each of two games.
Personal Life
In 1999 Filardi married his wife, Kim. They have three sons, Gerald Jr., Jack, and Joseph. Gerald Jr. was an all-county quarterback who led his senior team to the state championship, however he chose to play lacrosse at Penn State University, not football. Joseph is a rising star at high school quarterback.
