History[edit]
Samuel Gerald, and his sons, Thomas Gerald, Timothy Gerald, Benjamin Gerald, and Jeffrey Gerald opened the Gerald Mall in June 1961 with the anchors of JCPenney, Carson Pirie Scott, Montgomery Ward, and Wieboldt's. The mall was 2 floors and all the anchors except Wieboldt's had 3 floors. Major inline stores included W. T. Grant, Walgreens, F. W. Woolworth, Madigan's, and Kresge’s. Wieboldt's closed in 1987 and became MainStreet that same year, which became Kohl's in 1989. The Gerald Family sold the mall to Simon in 1994. Montgomery Ward closed in 2001, then became Bloomingdale's from 2003 to 2010, until it relocated to a town center next to the mall. The former Bloomingdale's space became Von Maur in 2013. Simon sold the mall to Washington Prime Group in 2014. Carson's closed on 2018
Gerald Town Center[edit]
Gerald Town Center opened in 2003 with Circuit City, Linens 'n Things, Steve & Barry's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sports Authority, and Target. Linens 'n Things and Steve & Barry's closed in 2008, along with Circuit City in 2009. Saks closed in 2009 too, and Bloomingdale's took it’s spot in 2010. The former Circuit City, Linens 'n Things, and Steve & Barry's space were subdivided into Bed Bath & Beyond, Buy Buy Baby, OfficeMax, and Dollar General in 2011. Sports Authority closed in 2016 and became Dick's Sporting Goods in 2018. Bed Bath & Beyond and Buy Buy Baby closed in 2023
